Timely Headline

Last night the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox for the right to represent the American League in the 2008 World Series. The year has truly been a cinderella story for the Rays who have risen from the depths of their division (arguably the toughest in all of sports) despite having the second lowest payroll in baseball (Yankees $210 million / Rays $43 million). It's truly a 'David vs. Goliath' story.

Needless to say, the headlines of every major paper in the Tampa Bay Area this morning were devoted almost entirely to the Rays except for one - the Sarasota Herald Tribune - who had the forsight to also run a feature article about Fast Pitch! alongside a picture of the Rays flame throwing (fast pitcher) rookie closer David Price.

The parallels between the story of the Rays and Fast Pitch! are eerily similar. Both can be described as scrappy, resourceful, underdogs with unorthodox managers who face longshot odds in markets dominated by goliaths (i.e. Red Sox = LinkedIn). The story of the Rays gives hope to every team (or company) fighting an uphill battle against unlimited resources.

Whether the Herald timed the Fast Pitch! article to coincide with the Rays historical win is anyone's guess. One thing is for sure. The added exposure we're receiving in the Bay Area as everyone grabs up a copy of the historical newspaper is a home run!

Nice job guys. Go Rays.

Who Is The Best Pitcher on Fast Pitch?

This week we launched a new video feature that brings Fast Pitch! full circle by allowing our members the ability to quickly create and embed video to their profile without ever having to leave Fast Pitch! In other words, you can now literally make your 'pitch' on Fast Pitch!

Communicating with video on our network brings a new layer of interactivity to the Fast Pitch! experience by giving our users the opportunity to add more personality to their profile as well as other forms of content added to their account.

Creating a video on Fast Pitch! is simple and requires only a camera and microphone (most laptops now come integrated with these). Users then click the 'Record' button and start talking. Once completed, the user clicks 'Save' and can preview the video. All videos are automatically added to the profile itself and can also be quickly embedded within other forms of content including Press, Classifieds, Events and Group Pages.
Adding video to a Press Release is a powerful way to convey excitement around your announcement

Amateur video is a huge phenomenon and has quickly become one of the fastest growing forms of social media on the web. Look no further than the success of You Tube and the millions of videos that have been created in recent years. Yet surprisingly, the majority of business professionals have yet to embrace video as a tool to convey their message.

Anyone who sells... must create a video

To encourage our users to embrace video, Fast Pitch! is running an 'Elevator Pitch! Contest' throughout the month of October. The contest will determine who on our network gives the best 'pitch' about their business. Our panel of judges plan to review thousands of videos over the next few weeks to come up with the Top 5 videos based on effectiveness, creativity, and clarity, The Top 5 videos will be posted on our network for an additional week and will be rated by our users to determine a winner.

The winning "pitcher" will receive a Lifetime Platinum Membership to Fast Pitch! valued at nearly $500.00 AND more imporantly, will have their video prominently featured on our video page as an example for how to make an effective 'pitch'. The added exposure promises to be quite significant for the winner.

The world is watching... It's time to throw out your first pitch!

Good Luck!

Town Hall Webinars

In the spirit of this election season, Fast Pitch! is re-launching our 'How To Use Fast Pitch!' webinar series this October as a 'Town Hall' style event designed to be less formal and more conversational than in previous months. The goal of these intimate webinars (less than 15 attendees at a time) is to give users the freedom to ask a Fast Pitch! expert specific questions about any topic related to not only Fast Pitch! but how social networking can help their business.

As of today, we've posted about twenty events at various dates and times (mornings, afternoons and evenings) to accomodate our users living in various time zones. We also plan to launch additional events for our overseas users by leveraging Skype's Conference capabilities.

The agenda of these 30-minute town hall style events include the following:
  1. Social Networking Overview (5 minutes)
  2. Fast Pitch! Overview (5 minutes)
  3. Questions & Answers (20 minutes)
Our hope is that users come prepared to ask specific questions about not only features within Fast Pitch! but also general questions about how social networking can help them grow their business. In addition to our current users, we look forward to discussions with people who are brand new to social networking for business or who may have experience with other networks and are interested in learning about the advantages of Fast Pitch!
